ABOUT ME

My name is Callan and I am currently in my final year at university studying Media and Communication, due to graduate in July 2020. Although I am on the broad course as my interest are varied, I have a keen interest in PR and have begun to focus my studies into obtaining a career in the PR industry through undertaking the PR modules, as well as modules in Visual Communication and Television.

I have created and pitched campaign proposals for companies such as MG Motors and St Patricks Day, Birmingham. I have also worked with local businesses creating promotional creative content.

Whilst at university I joined Birmingham City University Rowing Club and during my final year became a part of the clubs committee as their Marketing and Communications Officer. Whilst not only joining a club in which I was passionate about, my role on the committee allowed me to utilise my skills learnt at university, as well as giving me vital skills such as communication, commitment and leadership.

Throughout my time at university I have gained work experience through placements allowing me to apply the skills and knowledge I developed at university into a professional environment, as well as gaining valuable skills which cannot be taught in lectures and seminars. I have gained experience working in both production and post-production aspects of television. Working in TV has allowed me to become perceptive, quick-thinking and adaptable through the fast-paced nature of the industry.

With having a strong interest in music and going to gigs and events, I have also been working part-time as a bartender at The Night Owl, Digbeth. Not only did this help me finically alongside my studies, but also allowed me to immerse myself in the live music scene. My job also gave me many opportunities to network with people working in the PR and events industry.

I am currently working on my Final Major Project, in which I have launched an online campaign to end the stigma around men’s mental health, something in which I am very passionate about. To keep up to date with my campaign please click the Instagram link.

As graduation is approaching quickly, I am looking to gain a career in the PR industry.
